What is Lounge Avenue?

That is a genuinely good question. While listening to our station, you might have wondered what a Foo Fighters or The Prodigy track is doing here. Well, to understand what Lounge Avenue is, you first have to understand where it came from.

My name is Petru Stratulat, a radio broadcaster with 20 years of experience. I have worked for major Romanian stations, including Europa FM and Radio Guerrilla. During all this time, I inevitably learned what it takes to make a professional, great-sounding radio station. I know that for a station to grow and become relevant, it needs to attract a massive audience, which means blending various music genres to fit a specific target demographic. After all, big radio stations rely on substantial advertising revenue to fund their expansion.

Lounge Avenue is not a huge radio station, and it probably never will be. It was created in its founder’s image. Lounge Avenue represents me completely. Most tracks fall under trip-hop, downtempo, chillout, and their subgenres, but there are also a few splashes of color meant to break the rhythm. You will find rock songs here, for example, and more. Not many, but just enough to snap you out of your numbness.

Lounge Avenue is not trying to grow its audience by betraying its musical concept. It is not a background radio for cafes or gyms, stripped of spoken content just so it will not bother paying businesses that want a tailored, background-friendly format.

It is a radio station built to relax its audience, but also to occasionally wake them up. We already have two content shows and will continue to create more. We will take our shows out of the studio and broadcast from public spaces, to be right among the people.

Lounge Avenue is a living radio, something rarely seen in the online sector. We want to bring the vibrancy of FM radio to the internet, without compromising our music just to attract new crowds. We are always open to music suggestions. If you have tracks that you think fit Lounge Avenue, you are free to—and we actively encourage you to—suggest them. Just go to the website, click the Chat button, select the Send a Song option, and drop a YouTube link so we can hear your suggestion with a single click. If we think it belongs on Lounge Avenue, it will definitely make it into our daily rotation. We already have over 50 tracks added this way, all sent in by our listeners.

We have the luxury of playing what we love because the radio is self-funded, supported by personal resources and by our listeners through our Patreon page (https://patreon.com/loungeavenue). Without financial pressure, we can sustain a passion project like this.
