So, this happened and completely caught us off guard. A month ago, we joined a pro audience tracking platform built by Dragos Ilie from Play Radio Constanta. Thanks, Dragos, for all the help over time.
On day one, we thought it was a tracking glitch. We checked, and it wasn’t. Days went by, confirming the numbers are actually real.
We figured our audience was pretty small given our chill and lounge niche. We never expected around 6,000 public IPs, mostly from Brazil! Keep in mind, one IP can hide a lot of devices. A public IP is basically your network’s internet license plate. There are also local intranet IPs. If a network has 40 computers with local IPs, they all share one public IP online. So, those 6,000 public IPs could mean way more devices that we sadly just can’t track.
Plus, there are cases where multiple devices on mobile data get the exact same public IP from their carrier through CGNAT.
So, welcome to the club, Brazil. Or maybe you’ve been here a while and we just noticed, which is also amazing. Based on an analysis, we have 6,000 official listeners plus 9,000 unofficial ones, totaling 15,000 tuning into an indie radio station backed by the listeners and its founder.
Thank you.
