Always chasing the next great sound, bringing fresh discoveries, artist stories and a sharp ear for the tracks you’ll want on repeat.
The Bear is a comedy drama series, more drama and a little bit of bitter-sweet comedy, that brings the visceral reality of the culinary world to the public’s attention. This series is one of those series that you love it or hate it. It forces you to wonder if aiming for perfection might be costing you more than it’s worth in your well-being and relationships.
It tells the story of a world-famous fine dining chef who comes back to Chicago to take over his family’s sandwich shop. After the sudden death of his brother, Carmy, the main character found the business a mess and drowning in debt. He starts his new journey with a new team of employees, a mixture of different characters. Over time, everyone will step into the spotlight, sharing their stories and growing right before our eyes. This incredible character development reveals grief, hardship, but at the same time strength and family support.
What makes The Bear so special is how it perfectly mixes intense, powerful, stressful scenes with deeply moving, painful emotions. And it is doing this by being accompanied by a great soundtrack and of course great performances.
The intense and hypnotic energy in The Bear is created by visuals with claustrophobic close-ups. Following the cooks, using long and uncut shots, the creators of this series captured the “choreography” of their rush in real-time. At the same time, they used edited sudden cuts to mimic the anxiety of the characters. They created the perfect immersion sensation by using the contrast between deafening kitchen chaos moments with sudden silence. The gritty Chicago soul is felt everywhere in the soundtrack, with alternative rock bands like R.E.M and Pearl Jam.
The Bear shines most with its amazing performances and realistic cinematography. It creates the perfect atmosphere to ask yourself if chasing perfection is worth the toll on your mental health and personal life.
