Heretic, a story about a visit turned into something else

Heretic is a deeply unsettling psychological thriller that takes a simple everyday situation and turns it into a complete nightmare. The story follows two young and highly devoted missionaries who knock on the wrong door while trying to spread their faith. They are greeted by a very charming and incredibly polite older man who kindly invites them inside out of a heavy rainstorm. However, what starts as a friendly and totally normal conversation about religion and philosophy slowly morphs into a terrifying trap as he locks the doors and begins playing a dark psychological game to completely break down their core beliefs.

The movie does an absolutely amazing job of building a deeply claustrophobic atmosphere without relying on cheap jump scares or loud noises. The tension comes directly from the incredibly sharp dialogue and the terrifyingly calm nature of the host, making you feel completely trapped right alongside the two main characters. As the quiet house reveals its deeply hidden secrets and the strange puzzles become a literal matter of life and death, the suspense reaches an incredibly intense level.
