The Ghost Writer is a fantastic political thriller that pulls you straight into a very cold and isolated world. The story follows a talented but unnamed writer who is hired to finish the memoirs of a controversial former British prime minister after the previous writer dies in a highly suspicious accident. He travels to a heavily guarded and gloomy island estate in the middle of winter to get the job done quickly. However, what starts as a simple paycheck soon turns into a massive headache as he realizes his new boss has a very dark and complicated past.

The atmosphere in this movie is incredibly moody and claustrophobic, making you feel the constant tension right alongside the main character. As he digs deeper into the manuscript and asks questions he really should not be asking, he begins to uncover hidden secrets that put his own life in serious danger. The pacing is very deliberate and smart, relying on subtle clues and quiet paranoia rather than loud action scenes to build the suspense. If you enjoy a clever and slow burn mystery that keeps you guessing until the very end, you will definitely appreciate this highly atmospheric film.
